Types of skin
We have different types of skin and all of them have different requirements.
Types of Skincare:
Normal – Normal skin type has good texture, it’s not too dry and too oily, has even tone and no marked blemishes.
Oily – Oily skin is shiny throughout the day because it has excess skin oil, it feels greasy when we touch and has clogged pores. It is more prone to acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Combination – Combination type skincare has two or more different types of skin. Some parts of the skin can be dry or normal and other parts are oily. This type of skin is oily in the T zone, which includes a forehead, nose, and chin.
Sensitive: Sensitive skin deals with irritation, rashness, and redness. Special care is needed to this type of skin,
Skincare Do’s and Don’ts
A healthy skin is what represents you, so here are some do and don’t for your beautiful skin.
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat healthy food
- Have a sound sleep.
- Don’t touch your face again and again.
- Don’t leave your home without applying sunscreen.
- Don’t over-exfoliate.
- Don’t smoke.
- Don’t sleep with makeup on.

Cleansing removes dirt, sweat oil, etc from the skin which gets accumulated on your face throughout the day. Clean your hands and use any face cleanser according to your skin type to wash your face, do not forget to apply on your neck area. It is advisable to clean your face twice a day to keep your skin fresh.
This step is not necessary and you can skip it as per your choice. Toner removes any other residual impurities left behind after cleansing. Best way to apply it is by using cotton pads or balls. It is suggested to take experts’ advice on the selection of toner, and do not use harsh alcohol-based toner which can cause irritation and damage your skin.
You can use an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells from your skin. It can be done 2-3 times a week, over-exfoliation can harm your skin. Select the product according to your skin type and take experts’ advice if you have a sensitive skin type.
It is one of the most important steps for skincare. Moisturizing helps you to protect your skin and keep it hydrated and smooth. You can choose a moisturizer according to your skin type.
Use SPF :
Always wear sunscreen when going out. UV rays from the Sun can cause a lot of damage to your skin so apply it regularly and do not forget to reapply it. Sunscreen is important for all skin types.
How to treat skin problems at home
Our skin is a protective layer of our body and it faces a lot of problems like acne, rashes, allergies, etc. Here are some ingredients which you will find at home, these can help you to fight with different skin problems.
1) Baking soda for Acne
Mix baking soda with some water and make a paste, apply it for 20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water.
2)Sandalwood powder for Scars
Mix sandalwood powder with milk or rose water, apply the paste on your face and rinse it off with cold water.
3) Honey and egg white for White Heads.
Take some eggs white and add honey to it. Apply to the affected area, keep it for 25-30 minutes, and then wash it with cold water.
4) Green tea for Black Heads.
Put one teaspoon of Green tea in water and make a paste. Apply this on the affected area and scrub it gently for 3-4 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
5) Turmeric for Suntan
Mix turmeric with chilled yogurt and make a paste. Apply it on affected areas and wash it after 30 minutes.
DIY face mask for Sensitive skin
Milk, Oat flour, and Banana
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon oat flour
- a small piece of banana
- Mash the banana, mix well with oat flour and milk and create a paste.
- Apply the paste on your face, leave it for 15-20 minutes then wash it with normal water.
It nourishes your skin and makes it healthy and soft. Milk and oat flour will help to get rid of dull skin and enhance your complexion. Banana provides antioxidants to the skin and makes it hydrated and soft.
DIY face mask for Oily skin
Two most effective face masks for people having oily skin are :
Gram Flour, Turmeric, Lemon, and Milk Mask
- 2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
- ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Few drops of lemon juice
- 2-3 tablespoons of milk
- Water as required
- Mix all the ingredients and apply on the face for 15- 20 minutes and then wash with normal water.
Gram Flour cleanses your skin and will treat acne along with tanning. Turmeric contains antioxidants which make your skin glow, turmeric mixed with lemon would help me in lightening pigmentation and discoloration.
Multani Mitti/Fuller’s Earth Face Mask
A simple Multani mitti face mask is very good to remove oil and dirt from your face. It’s an old age remedy, Multani mitti works as an oil-absorbing agent. This face mask is very easy to make
- 2 tablespoon Multani mitti
- Lemon juice
- Take two tablespoons of Multani mitti powder and soak it in water for half an hour.
- Add a tablespoon of rose water and a few drops of lemon juice, mix it well.
- Apply the paste on your face till it gets dry and wash your face with normal water.
This face mask will clear up your face, improve blood circulation, and remove excess oil and dead cells from the skin.
DIY face mask for Normal skin
Cucumber, milk, honey, sugar
- Half cucumber
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
Puree the cucumber in a blender, then put other ingredients and stir.
Put the paste on your face and rinse it after some time.
Cucumbers act as a cooling agent, honey as a moisturize, brown sugar exfoliates the skin and milk removes dull skin. It makes your skin smoother and softer.
DIY face mask for Combination skin
As people with combination skin types have skin oily on forehead, nose, and chin, they can use oily skin facemask on those areas and normal skin face masks for other areas.
Here are some face masks for people having a combination skin type.
Yogurt and cucumber mask
It is one of the best facial masks for combination skin. It helps to reduce the oily shine and treats acne.
- 2 tablespoon of Yogurt
- ½ cucumber
- Put half a cucumber into a blender and make a puree then add 2 tablespoons of yoghurt and stir well to make a smooth paste.
- Apply it for 20 minutes and wash it off with normal water.
